Database Administrator – September 2022 at Air Traffic and Navigation Services

Applications are invited for the position of Database Administrator (Grade 8) [Email Address Removed] The successful candidate will report to Supervisor: End User Support.

Main Activities · Participate in regular meetings with client departments to discuss ICT related issues and alignment with business strategy. · Assist in defining and reviewing ICT system strategy, plans and upgrades based on vendor/vendor technology roadmaps. · Performs and contributes to the upgrade of ICT systems and ensures that system software is on the latest acceptable version, · Responds to all assigned database system calls efficiently and in a timely manner. · Serves as an escalation point for members of the End User Support team. · Responsible for managing and monitoring SLAs related to ICT and database systems. · Responsible for the management and monitoring of all systems in the area of ​​responsibility and includes among others: the database hypervisor (VMWare) and storage platforms (EMC / HP , Dell and NetApp), SQL and Oracle database systems, server platforms, Citrix, Active Directory , Exchange, backups, file/print system at all ATNS sites. · Responsible for the administration and support of cloud platforms (IAAS, PAAS, SAAS) on M365 and Azure, among others. · Analyzes database and related system calls and incidents to report and identify operational trends for future ICT needs. · Maintains resilience of ICT systems through effective management of database server platforms and backup technologies. · Ensures that the documents relating to the configuration and design of the systems are maintained and updated in the CMDB. · Participate in the configuration/change control process for other computer systems. · Provides problem solving support services through facilitation between stakeholders. · Manages database and related ICT systems in accordance with governance frameworks. · Reports and advice on system status, availability, problems, resolutions. · Manages maintenance and housekeeping practices to enhance user experience. · Manages and ensures that repair practices are followed, including product warranties and best practices. · Manages the knowledge base of common user issues. · Maintains a secure ICT environment through proactive management of patches and updates to the database and related systems. · Model and test the impact of changes. · Administration of database and related ICT disaster recovery and backup environments · Administration of database systems controls and policies to ensure security and integrity. · Advise management on issues related to the security, stability and integrity of the database system. · Ensure a high level of integrity of hardware and software systems on the database and related systems. · Update system security policies to ensure system integrity. · Responsible for the implementation of the database and related ICT projects in accordance with the agreed project plan and acceptance testing. · Ensures good business relations with internal network users and potential external customers. · Participate in ICT projects to support key initiatives and contribute best practices to achieve project objectives. · Reports on ICT systems database and parameters against agreed strategy and operational requirements. · Ensures security policy compliance through effective management of security events. · Adheres to all IT policies, procedures and standards relating to databases and ICT systems. · Manages configuration and change control records with respect to database and ICT system activities. · Ensures and reports on the IT DRP exercises that are conducted with the companies on all databases and related systems.

Minimum qualifications

· Diploma or certificate or bachelor’s degree in computer science/computer science or SQL certification/database administration. SQL Programming Language, Oracle DBA, MCDBA Added Advantage

Minimum experience

5-7 years of experience in the IT environment, including 3 years in a senior systems engineer role responsible for the management, operations, maintenance and support of databases, database systems , database server hardware, database replication, backup, restore and integrity checks. Knowledge of SQL managed instance on cloud platforms and database migration to PAAS and IAAS is desirable. General LAN and WAN network experience is required to understand connectivity, communication and security requirements. · A minimum of 5 years of direct experience in database administration.
